Litluborgir, Hafnarfjordur

Litluborgir was protected as a natural monument in 2009. The aim of the protection of Litluborgir is to preserve distinctive geological formations on the Hafnarfjörður land. Furthermore, the aim of the protection is to preserve the geological formations in the area due to their high educational value, as Helgafell and its surroundings have long been a popular outdoor activities area.

Litluborgir are lava formations and pseudo craters that were formed when lava flowed over a lake. Other noteworthy and interesting formations in the area are stalactites and diatomite.

The natural monument covers an area of 10.6 ha.
