Vigholar, Kopavogur
Víghólar was protected as a natural monument in 1983. There you can find glacial-formed dolerite-rounded rocks, so-called whalebacks. The glacial striae indicate the direction of the glacier that covered Kópavogur at the end of the ice age. Víghólar and Borgarholt belong to vast lava fields that flowed in the warmer periods of the ice age.
The natural monument covers an area of 1.4 ha.
