Management and conservation plan
On 12 September 2022, the Minister of the Environment, Energy and Climate signed a Management and Protection Plan for the Geysir area in the presence of the Prime Minister and the staff of the Environment Agency and the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate, as the area had been classified as a protected area on 17 June 2020.
Representatives from the Environment Agency, Bláskógabyggd and stakeholders formed a collaborative group that worked on the plan. The Management and Protection Plan for Geysir is intended to be a strategic document, written in cooperation with the stakeholders of the land and the municipality, and is intended as a management tool to draw up the future vision for the area. The aim of the plan is to propose a strategy for the protection of Geysir and how to maintain the protective value of the area in as much mutual agreement between all parts as possible.
